Such was the comparative lack of both aircraft and radar that training of radar controllers was conducted on adapted Wall’s ice cream tricycles. Fitted with a screen to deliberately reduce visibility, these unlikely contraptions pedalled around Yeovilton’s dispersals for years with great success until replaced by more advanced radar systems.
