An airfield at Sandy Flatts Farm was used by farmer Samuel Huddlestone and local motor trader Frank Elliot to provide weekend pleasure flights. This farm was owned by Middlesbrough Corporation and the site operated as an airfield during circa 1947-52. Houses, schools and a golf course now surround the former landing field.
